Artist's Biography
Your first impressions might have you thinking "oh god, and yet another landscape painter ," that decision will be yours. "As we go about our daily rituals we obviously look at and see many things. Some events register in our memories while others do not. Of the "things" that register, have we taken a close observational view or do we just take the visual information for granted?"
Craig is both a commercial (Artist Environs, LLC) and fine artist . His solo mural and scenic work can be viewed at the Arizona Museum of Natural History (Formerly: Mesa Southwest Museum). The murals are "American Lion," "Desert Walk," "Dinosaur Mountain," "Triassic Forest," "Mosasaur," "Metoposaur," and collaborative work in the "Paleoseas" Diorama. He was one of two muralists chosen out of 35 Arizona applicants to work with the New York City based Evergreen Painting Studios, to paint the 10,000 square feet of murals in the Bank One Ballpark. His paintings have been exhibited widely across the U.S. with inclusion into national and international shows in New York jurored by Robert Rosenblum (Guggenheim Museum), Tina Kukielski (Whitney Museum), Charlotta Kotik (Brooklyn Museum), Joan Cawley Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, Artists Expansion Group Show at Mesa Southwest Museum, and a solo show @ Central Gallery at Burton Barr Central Library in downtown Phoenix.
Educated at F.I.T. and Pratt Institute in New York, he earned his BFA in Interior Design from Arizona State University in 1980. Craig does scenic and special effect painting for the motion picture and television industry. He has worked on scenic teams for "Kids In America," "Hidden Palms," "The Kingdom," "Four Eyes," and "Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro Man.". (I.A.T.S.E. Local 485 member since 1995).
Craig paints custom murals, trompe l'oeil and faux effects for commercial and residential environments. He also paints commissioned acrylic interpretations of floral and landscape subjects from clients' personal photographs, or from his photos.
